Fruit
Fresh prickly pear fruit can be enjoyed as food and developed into other products.
SW Cactus is building a sustainable cactus-growing and product company rooted in the High Desert of Southern California. We grow prickly pear cactus for food, ingredients, and plant-based products while working toward 100% use of the plant.
SW Cactus, operating under the umbrella of Small Path Farm LLC, is built around prickly pear cacti, including Opuntia basilaris and Opuntia ficus-indica, as sustainable resources for food and plant-based products.
Founded in Newberry Springs, California, SW Cactus is developing healthy, sustainable alternatives across food and consumer products, including fresh fruit, nopales, juice, oil, and jam, as well as plant-based alternatives to conventional plastic products.
We see cactus as more than a crop. It can be a source of food, ingredients, materials, and new products — with the goal of making productive use of as much of the plant as possible.
Our goal is to develop useful pathways for every part of the cactus — turning fruit, pads, seeds, and plant fiber into food, ingredients, and plant-based products.
Fresh prickly pear fruit can be enjoyed as food and developed into other products.
Nopales can be eaten and explored for food and ingredient applications.
Seeds can be processed into prickly pear seed oil for specialty applications.
Fruit can be turned into juice, jam, prickly pear BBQ sauce, and other value-added products.
Cactus pads and fibers can be explored for leather-like materials and biodegradable products.
We want the story of SW Cactus to be about thoughtful utilization. The fruit can become food, juice, or jam. The pads can become nopales or a source of plant material. The seeds can be processed for oil. And the remaining plant material can help us explore new biodegradable and plant-based products.
Product concepts shown here represent areas of development and exploration; final products will depend on processing, testing, food-safety requirements, manufacturing, and market readiness.
Some property owners have cactus they need removed. SW Cactus sees an opportunity to explore a better next step: where removal is safe and suitable, collect usable cactus and give that plant material a productive purpose.
Instead of thinking only about disposal, we're building a pathway from removal → collection → processing → useful products.
SW Cactus plans to offer cactus removal for eligible properties. If the cactus can be safely removed and fits our collection needs, we'll work with you on next steps.
Our goal is to turn a removal problem into a resource opportunity whenever the plant material is suitable for collection.
If you own suitable land in the High Desert, you may be able to partner with SW Cactus to put unused acreage to productive use and explore a revenue-generating cactus crop opportunity.
We want this to be a straightforward partnership that gives landowners a potential productive use for land that may otherwise sit unused, while giving SW Cactus room to grow.
If you are curious about whether your property could be a fit, fill out the form and we will share more information about how the partnership could work.
We're building relationships before harvest so we can understand demand and plan our supply around real customers. If you are a distributor, wholesaler, retailer, restaurant, foodservice buyer, beauty company, or ingredient buyer, tell us what you are looking for.
